Operations & Event Specialist
Seasonal; 7‑month contract
The Operations & Events Specialist will support the execution of the Waterfront Container Village events and operations plans with specific ownership of regular, recurrent events, marquee events, and will work closely with the ops team to maintain an excellent day-to-day customer experience in the Waterfront Container Village.
This highly collaborative role on the AREA 506 team putting plans into action in the Waterfront Container Village and for our marquee festival properties. Leading the on-site activation that creates amazing experiences, they’ll think through the details of every opportunity and make it all look easy.
The successful candidate will have an eye for detail yet be capable of seeing the big picture. They’re a self-starter, a boss with checklists, work well with others, and prioritize the audience above all else. With a strong work ethic and a passion for making our region a better place, the ideal candidate also thrives on getting shit done and having fun while they’re doing it.
Responsibilities
• Hands-on coordination and execution of annual Operations & Event plans at the AREA 506 Waterfront Container Village
• Support execution of major AREA 506 festival properties
• Coordinate equipment maintenance and facilitate emergency repairs in the Container Village
• Oversee the installation of event equipment, including lighting, banners, sound system, and décor requiring safe, hands-on operation of machinery (forklift and/​or scissor lift experience is an asset)
• Manage the creation of all event ​‘blue sheets’ and ensure clear communication of details
• Provide updates at Operations & Event Production Meetings with the larger AREA 506 team
• Actively work to organize, label, and maintain assets and materials at the Waterfront Container Village and in the AREA 506 office
• Manage provided budgets
• Monitor event trends and recommend new opportunities
• Assist in developing annual plans with AREA 506 team
• Attend one professional development program in a related subject area per year
Qualifications
• Post-secondary education in business, hospitality, management or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years work experience
• Good taste in music
• Forklift/​scissor lift safety training or willingness to obtain
• Experience in event management is an asset
