Created during the COVID-19 lockdowns by Gaby Mitton and brought back to life by Camille Ferron, Maritime Women Apparel is activewear by women, for women. Located in Retail Row, you’ll find a curated selection of their signature activewear, handbags, as well as Love Letters’ affordable, high-quality, non-tarnishing jewellery.
Maritime Women believes in:
Empowerment: Every woman deserves to feel strong and confident in her body.
Comfort & Style: Their pieces are designed for movement and relaxation, while looking and feeling your best.
Quality & Performance: They use premium materials to ensure durability, breathability, and all-day comfort.
Women Supporting Women: They’re building a community that uplifts, supports, and inspires.
We spoke with Camille about what made her fall in love with the brand, how she reached out to Gaby to bring Maritime Women back from hiatus, and the growth they’ve seen since their first pop-up in the AREA 506 Waterfront Container Village.
Q: What’s your favourite colour?
A: Purple!
Q: Where did the idea for the business come from?
A: Gaby studied fashion design at George Brown Polytechnic in Toronto. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, she had lots of time on her hands and decided to start Maritime Women Apparel. She had always loved sewing her own clothing and wanted to create a women’s activewear brand that was actually designed by women (it’s crazy how many women’s clothing brands are run by men!).
Gaby closed the business in 2021 after operating for a year. At the time, I (Camille) was a customer who loved the brand and the clothing. Fast forward to October 2024: I found a piece of Maritime Women clothing at a local women’s clothing sale and thought, “OMG, this brand has to come back to life!” So I reached out to Gaby to grab a coffee, and we decided to revive the brand!
Q: How did you come up with the name of your business?
A: Maritime, because we’re proud of where we’re from. Women, because we’re proud to be women. We kept the name even when we decided to relaunch together — it just fits.
Q: Did you have a different job before you started working here? What did you do?
A: At our relaunch, Gaby was working full-time at the Pump House Brewpub in Moncton. I (Camille) was a teacher and also doing some admin work for a real estate agent.
Q: Is your container village location your first brick-and-mortar retail shop?
A: Yes — in 2025, we tested the waters with the Pop-Up Container in the Village and decided to come back and stay for October. In February 2026, we opened our main store location in Moncton, NB (16 Church Street).
Q: Why did you want to set up shop at AREA 506?
A: They reached out to us through social media and thought we would be a great fit (we’re so glad they did!). We love supporting local, and this opportunity allows us to meet so many wonderful people — not only from New Brunswick, but from around the world, with cruise ships and tourists coming through.
Q: Knowing what you know now, is there anything you would have done differently when you were starting out?
A: We wouldn’t do anything differently, but I don’t think we realized how much work actually goes into a business. It’s hard work!
Q: What do you consider your biggest success so far?
A: Our biggest success the community we’ve built around the brand. The Maritime Women community brings women together through events and shared experiences, and watching women grow their confidence, love themselves, and lift each other up is something we’re incredibly proud of.
On a personal level, choosing to build something I’m (Camille) truly passionate about, rather than feeling obligated to follow a conventional path, has been a success in itself. Waking up every day happy to do what I love is the best feeling ever.
Q: What’s next?
A: We’re always hosting fun events at our store at 16 Church Street in Moncton. We encourage people to follow us on social media, where we keep the community updated on upcoming events.
